Smartwool Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks

Classic merino hiking socks.

Smartwool’s Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks are, hands down, the most durable hiking socks I’ve ever worn. This classic sock has been my top hiking sock for as long as I can remember. The Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks fit so well, provide the exact amount of cushioning I need in my hiking boots, and last so long.

Long Life

I still have some very old classic socks that are maybe 10 years old, or 15, that I’m only getting rid of now because the elastic in the top is breaking down. (Granted, as a product tester I have a collection of socks to rotate, so that helps extend durability.) I have never had a hole in any of these socks.

Comfort and Fit

New sock on top, old sock on bottom. This is one durable sock!

With the popularity of hiking shoes and fast hiking, I’ve been wearing much lighter socks the past several years. It’s nice to get back to basics with my favorite boots and socks. I love how the Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks have thicker cushioning that surrounds my feet, with reinforced heel cups and toe boxes, not to mention a nice flat, imperceptible seam across the toes. Contoured strips along the top edges of the socks and around the arches of my feet keep the socks in place. No bunching EVER. The cushioning even extends through the crew-style ribbing to the top of the sock.

Wicks and Breathes

Thanks to the high merino content (56%) in the yarn, the Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks do a good job of breathing and wicking. My feet never overheat, and at the end of my activities my socks are dry. I pack light when I travel or go into the woods, so I often wear my hiking socks for several days before washing. Smell has never been a problem with these socks.

Bottom Line

Smartwool’s Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Crew Socks check every box for me. I like the cushioning, they fit great, they stand up well wash after wash, they don’t smell when I don’t wash them, and they provide full coverage cushioning that I need when wearing hiking boots.

I can’t think of another sock I have worn as much as this one.
