Soft and Strong
The Desert Pucker Dry Long Sleeve Shirt by Royal Robbins has been a customer favorite for more than 25 years; after wearting the shirt during several outings this Spring I can see why.
The first thing I noticed about this versatile shirt was its soft fabric. Wear after wear, wash after wash, the Desert Pucker Dry Long Sleeve Shirt looks good and holds its shape. The fabric is somewhere between lightweight and midweight, and I found it to be fairly breathable on warm days. There’s a grid pattern in the fabric that gives an appearance of texture. It looks great with jeans, shorts, and chino-style pants.
The Desert Pucker Dry Long Sleeve Shirt is made out of Carbon-Zero TENCEL™ Modal, a fiber created from wood! I’ve tested several tops that are made from TENCEL™ or a TENCEL™ blend, and I really like its cottony feel and durability. I rarely use my dryer, so I like that this fabric dries relatively quickly. When my cotton tees on the clotheline are still damp, the Desert Pucker Dry Long Sleeve Shirt is dry.
Style & Fit
I’ve been wearing the Desert Pucker Dry Long Sleeve Shirt as a first layer and over a merino or cotton t-shirt for all-day outings, power walks, and urban hikes. It’s comfortable, attractive, and designed for action.
I tested a men’s large, hoping for a “boyfriend” fit, but it wasn’t super loose on me. It’s cut straighter and runs a bit shorter than other men’s tops I’ve worn. I”m 6’ tall and usually wear a women’s size XL. I tried the men’s top in order to get more length in the sleeves. If you want a baggy fit, I recommond going up a size.
Overall I really like this shirt – it’s ideal for daily wear and travel — but I wish it was a bit longer through the torso. I also thought the buttons felt a bit flimsy against the strong fabric. I appreciate the easy-care fabric.
