Hands-Free Navigation

I don’t talk on my cell phone, text, or use voice-activated commends for phone apps while driving, but there are times when I need to use my iPhone’s maps. That’s when I use Nite Ize’s Squeeze® Universal Cup Holder Mount Universal Cup Holder Mount, an adjustable phone stand that allows me hands-free navigation assistance. 

Fast Set-Up

The Nite Ize Squeeze® Universal Cup Holder Mount is simple to assemble. It took me just a few seconds to attach the phone clamp to the base. The base is also adjustable to fit the typical cup-sized wells in between a car’s two front seats. 

I have an old car, so I don’t have a cup-shaped well, but the mount still fits into my more rectangular-style well. I can adjust the bendable arm on the mounting base to place the phone in an ideal spot. (If I could change one thing about the Squeeze® I would include a longer arm.) I can also move the phone in all directions until I find an angle that works for me.

The Squeeze® Universal Cup Holder Mount’s phone clamp has nice big levers, so it is easy to insert my phone. The clamp fits phones from 2.3” to 3.6” wide. I have an iPhone 12 that’s inside a silicone case, and it fits just fine with the case on.

Secure Storage

I don’t touch the phone while driving, but instead set up a navigation app with my location and my destination, press “go,” then focus on my driving. If I need to I can quickly glance down at the map, but I try not to because it’s too easy to lose focus on what’s important: paying attention to other drivers and to my driving.

I can use maps on my phone without using the Squeeze® Universal Cup Holder Mount, but I prefer knowing that my iPhone is secure rather than leaving it on the passenger seat. One hard break could catapult it into the dashboard. I’d rather be safe than replace an expensive phone.

Stereo Mount

Most often I use the Squeeze® Universal Cup Holder Mount to use my iPhone as my car stereo. My ancient radio/cassette player broke years ago, and I’d rather not put more money into this car when I’m just as happy to stream my commercial-free favorite playlists on my iPhone. 

Bottom Line

I’m happy I discovered the Nite Ize Squeeze® because it gives me a way to leverage two key features of my iPhone while keeping my hands on the steering wheel. It’s also been handy when I need to make phone calls between appointments. It’s pretty common for me to sit in a parking lot after an appointment and try to make a few calls before I have to leave for my next meeting. I can leave the phone in its stand, then have my hands free for taking notes. 

I appreciate the portability of this phone mount because I can use it my car and in rental cars. Also, I think it’s safer to remove it and toss it into my tote bag when I have to leave at the car parked for long periods of time. I’d rather not leave anything in the car that someone might want to steal.

I’m a big Nite Ize fan. Over the years I have tested many of their lights and waterproof gear bags, and I have always found their products to be useful, effective, and durable.
