Grizzly Grip 32-Ounce Insulated Water Bottle

I think of bears when I reach for my 32-ounce Grizzly Grip Water Bottle, and not just because of the eponymous brand name. I think of the Three Bears because my Grizzly Grip Bottle is not too big and not too small. It’s just right.

More Water = Better Hydration

Made out of 18/8 kitchen-grade stainless steel, the 32-ounce water bottle has become one of my favorite water bottles because it helps me stay adequately hydrated.

I have some smaller, slender water bottles that fit into the small outer sleeve of my tiny daypack, but they don’t hold enough water for an outing longer than an hour. I also have a couple of “growler” size (64-ounce) bottles, but they are better for all-day events or picnics where I’m in the same place all day and/or sharing my water (or iced tea…or basil-infused water…). Those bottles are too heavy to carry on a hike or a flight.

The Grizzly Grip is ideal because it holds a lot of water but isn’t too heavy. It’s wider than most of the bottles I usually use, but the hand (paw) indentations help me get a good grip. The bottle also has a rubberized bottom, so it’s more stable when I set it down.

Built to Last

The only times the Grizzly Grip Bottle doesn’t stay in place is when I drop it, which I seem to do frequently. Sometimes, it falls out of my car when I open the passenger door (because I’m always late and throw piles of things into the passenger seat when I go out). Or, I accidentally knock it off of the edge of a table. Or, I don’t see it on the floor and kick it across the room. And still, the bottle has never leaked. (As for me… I’m getting a neuro exam; I shouldn’t be this clumsy!)

I like the sturdy handle on top of the bottle. It makes it easy to get a firm grip when opening and closing the bottle. I like that the lid is attached to the bottle. I am exactly the type to misplace the top in my kitchen or drop it and lose it on a hike. Another bonus: the handle design allows me to attach the bottle to the outside of a bag or pack with a carabiner. I also carry it inside bags.

Beat the Heat

I swim at a nearby lake most days of the week, and between the exercise and the heat, I get very thirsty. I keep the Grizzly Grip in my swim buoy so I can stop and hydrate a few times during a workout. It really helps me prevent dizziness and stay focussed.

Travel Essential

I took the Grizzly Grip Bottle on a recent trip to California. Once through TSA, I was able to fill up the bottle at a water bottle station/fountain, and had enough water to drink during the 90-minute flight, with some left for the 40-min drive from the airport to my final destination. Having my own bottle means I save money when airport beverages can easily cost $4-5.

The Grizzly Grip Bottle is a bit wide for some of the outer sleeves on my smaller day packs, so I use an old bottle sling that fits the Grizzly perfectly. I wear it across my chest like a messenger bag. I have noticed while traveling that I seem to drink more because I keep the bottle with me wherever I go. I definitely notice the difference when I use the bottle: I drink more and feel better.

On a recent road trip across WA state, I tried using a growler-size bottle to stay hydrated (and avoid making any stops), but it was just too heavy and unwieldily to get a drink while driving. I ended up pulling into a rest area to transfer some of the water into the insulated Grizzly Grip Bottle. On the return trip I filled the bottle with refrigerated water, and also packed two bottles of orange juice and another bottle of water. The Grizzly Grip water was still cold seven hours later! Even on nights when I have had water left in my bottle at bedtime, it was still cold the next day. It’s a real treat to reach for a drink on a hot, hot day and find out that the water I put in the day before is perfectly chilled.

Two or Three

According to the Mayo Clinic, men need 3.7 liters of water a day and women need 2.7. At 32 ounces, the Grizzly Grip is just shy of a liter. I try to fill it and drink it dry twice a day.

Bottom Line

A hard-working bottle that keeps my water cold for hours and hours and holds enough to make it easier for me to drink more water each day.
