Therm-a-Rest Honcho Poncho

Two things:

  1. I just found the perfect holiday gift: Therm-a-Rest’s fabulously versatile Honcho Poncho.
  2. If you need to find me in the next few months, I’ll be on my couch, burrowed into my Honcho Poncho, watching Call The Midwife.

Nothing beats snuggling under a blanket watching Netflix on a cold pandemic night…nothing except wrapping myself in Therm-a-Rest’s versatile Honcho Poncho, a puffy, poly-filled treat for anyone who loves staying warm.

I just pull it on over my head, and have instant cavernous sleeves and a gigantic hood to keep me toasty. Even when I’m lying on the couch the material still covers my thighs. I use the gigantic kangaroo pocket to keep my hands warm. I can lie there like a mummy in perfect comfort for hours.

At midnight, when I suddenly remember to take out my garbage, I dash outside in my Honcho Poncho for that rainy trek to the curb. I love wearing the poncho outside because the combination of long, draped material and open spaces between the side snaps makes it a comfy jacket to wear in cold weather. I’ve worn it on long walks when my winter jacket would be too warm. (Mostly I wore it because I was too lazy to change and too warm and comfy to remove it.) It’s also ideal for start-and-stop activities when I need to shed layers to exercise but need a quick way to get warm when I finish exercising and sit around in the cold weather, chatting with my friend when I should go inside and shower.

Sometimes I unsnap the sides of the Honcho Poncho and unfold it into a large blanket. I love being able to cover my entire body with it. I’ve slept under it many nights while my comforter sat in the dirty laundry pile in my bathroom.

Therm-a-Rest’s Honcho Poncho is designed for packing, too. It folds into its own stuff sack for storage and travel, making it essential for road trips and getaways (and handy as a pillow). Well, I have to imagine this scenario because I’m currently not able to get away for a weekend because of Covid…but I’m gonna try to run away for a few days with my poncho and a friend after the holidays.) I also have to imagine being able to attend sports events because the Honcho Poncho is exactly the type of top layer I need when I realize I didn’t wear warm enough clothes.

One obvious bonus of having a built-in stuff sack is the flip-side-having a build-in zippered pocket. A BIG one. Like I could run to the store and stash a few essentials in there. Like I could recline with a huge bag of chips or Cheetos stuffed into the pocket. Really appreciate the zipper pull on the chest pocket; it makes it easier to zip the pocket closed without getting cheese dust all over my poncho. Available in five colors: Tomato, Olive, Slate Print, Blue Print, Green print. Weighs 1 pound 8 ounces. One size.

I love this cosy, warm poncho, blanket, take-out-the-garage-in-the-rain coat, chip holder, sleeping bag, travel blanket/jacket. For anyone you love, this is a must-give holiday item. Then you need to get yourself one because that hood means one person at a time. Ho, ho, ho.
