Stylish, lightweight insulated shirt in men’s and women’s sizes.
Now that fall has entered its coldest, wettest days, I’m doing everything I can to stay warm and dry. Stio’s Skycrest Snap Shirt has been an important part of that pursuit.
Weather Protection
The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is water resistant and has a PFAS-free DWR treatment that improves water repellency. I spend a lot of time getting wet during various outings around the city, so I appreciate that this shirt keeps me dry and warm and has a collar I can snap closed to protect my neck. The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is the perfect outer later on cool fall-approaching-winter days over a t-shirt even when the temperature gets down to 40oF. It’s also thin enough be the ideal mid layer on colder days under a rain shell. Whether I’m watching soccer practice or fishing at night on the bay, I stay warm even when I’m not active.
Eco-Friendly Materials
The shirt’s fabric, Pertex® Quantum® mini ripstop, made out of 100% recycled nylon, feels soft to the touch, and the shirt feels very light and thin. I would have guessed it was filled with down because the entire garment is so soft and pliable, but it’s not. The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is filled with Thermore® Ecodown® insulation, a bluesign®-certified material made out of 100% recycled polyester from plastic bottles. It’s an incredible insulating material that allows me to have an ultra light and highly compressible/packable shirt that is also very warm. Layering is important as the temperatures drop, so I love having a warm outer layer that is thin enough to wear under a jacket or rain shell.
Attractive & Comfortable
I love The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt because it’s far more stylish than some of my other cool- and cold-weather options. The shirt is quilted along the tops of the sleeves and across the shoulders and chest and has jean jacket style chest pockets (that snap closed). There are also two roomy front pockets. I like being able to stash small items like my wallet and a lip balm into the chest pockets. I most often used the front pockets to warm my hands, but they also snap shut, making them useful when I want to stash my large smartphone, my key lanyard, and other essentials. I love that The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt has snaps instead of a zipper. It has stew ease of my favorite button-up flannel shirts, but it’s made out incredibly durable, lightweight, and warm materials that protect me from the elements. Snaps also give me the option of opening up the short from top and bottom when I need more ventilation. The shirt is the perfect length, with the hem hitting about hip-line. The back of the jacket about an inch longer for full coverage.

The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is sporty, casual, and very comfortable. It’s roomy like a jeans jacket or chore jacket, but it’s not at all baggy. I especially like the sleeves, which are longer than sleeves in most of the women’s winter jackets I’ve tested this season. They fit even when I’m reaching for something. The sleeves appear to have cuffs at the hem for a tidy look, and the elastic that keeps out the cold is located inside the cuffs. It’s a brilliant design that gives me the feel of a shirt with the functions of a jacket.
I like that The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt’s branding is fairly low-key. The metal snaps are solid and durable, each one bearing an offset Stio logo. There is an embroidered Stio pinecone logo on the back of the jacket in a contrast color; that same color is used for a few small stitches around the chest pockets to give the shirt a smart look. There’s also a tiny tag on one of the side seams. Inside the collar there’s a nice long nylon strap that makes it easy to hang up the jacket on a hook.
Bottom Line
I love this jacket for its appearance as much as for its performance. I don’t like bulky tops and jackets, and I overheat easily,so this lightweight, thin top is perfect for me in temperatures from 50 F down to freezing (at which point I add a merino layer underneath. The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is really a three-season jacket for me since I live in a temperate climate. It’s also perfect for travel since it packs small and provides a lot of warmth. I’m impressed with how warm I stay even in the rain, and I like that Stio has used lightweight, compressible, and recycled materials with the Pertex® Quantum® fabric and Thermore® Ecodown® insulation. The Stio Skycrest Snap Shirt is perfect for people like me who are allergic to down but want a lightweight insulation layer.
