Petzl Tikka Headlamp

Petzl’s latest iteration of the super-classic Tikka series packs a ton of light into a lightweight, affordable package.

This no-frills headlamp, weighing in at just three ounces, (including 3-AAA batteries) sports a big, glove-friendly on/off switch and two brightness levels. An advertised 100-lumen output (high setting) gave me a wide pool of light for performing evening campground chores on a recent trip to Oregon’s Steens Range. The adjustable headband is removable and machine-washable.

The bulb itself is set into a glow-in-the-dark base, making it easy to find for the inevitable late night potty break. The light has two settings. The first saves burn time, the second is the brightest beam.

Four colors, 1-year guarantee. (Look for brown, black, red, or white—these newest colors are the new/improved design. Also, new graphics on the band, as shown above.)

Bottom line: Bare-bones lighting that’s a snap to find in the dark.
