Outdoor Research Prologue Trench

I’m a city gal, so I’m always happy to find a versatile jacket, like the Outdoor Research Prologue Trench, that protects me from the elements and protects my rep as a stylish dresser.

This lightweight trench is made out of a quick-drying, water- and wind-resistant poly/nylon/spandex blend. I like the longer trench cut, the more fitted styled, and the stretchy fabric, which makes me feel so free when I need to carry a tote or pack, run for a cab, or go on a hike. Since the fabric moves when I move I never feel like I’m working against my clothing. (There’s a men’s jacket, too, called the Prologue Travel Jacket.)

I LOVE the Prologue Trench’s high collar; it’s elegant and tall enough to provide good neck protection. The tapered sleeves, asymmetrical zipper, and discreet zippered side pockets all give the jacket a more refined look than my typical rain or soft shell jackets. It’s so nice to be able to have a jacket that is comfortable enough for a long flight or train ride, durable and weather-resistant enough for the trail, and grown-up enough to wear to the museum and out for dinner.

I appreciate the deep zippered side pockets, the long length (that covers my bum), and the fairly discreet logo placement on the front hem of the Prologue Trench (I’d rather have no logo at all or have it smaller and behind the collar. Still, it’s reflective for safety!).

The Outdoor Research Prologue Trench is the perfect “everything” jacket because it’s ideal for travel, trail, and daily use. I wouldn’t wear it for a long hike in a downpour, but it’s a very welcome alternative to wearing bulky, crinkly rain shells.
