A medium-brim sun protection hat. 

Made out of breathe fabric with UPF 50+, Outdoor Research’s Moab Sun Hat has been just what I need for afternoon outings. Whether I’m spending time at the lake or walking on urban trails, this medium-brim sun hat has been ideal at protecting my ears, neck, and face from the sun. 

Bucket Style

I like the Outdoor Research Moab Sun Hat’s soft, light-ish weight material and the roomy bucket style. The fabric feels like a lightweight canvas and does a good job of breathing (both via materials and grommet encircled air holes on the sides). The headband does a good job of wicking away forehead sweat. 

Adjustable Brim

I appreciate the Moab Sun Hat’s medium-brim style because I get good coverage without the distraction I have experienced with large, floppy-brimmed hats. The brim is just stiff enough to move and to stay place. Snaps on the sides of the hat allow me to snap the brim up on the sides if I want to, but I never do. I tend to put it on and forget about it. 

Finally, as much as I don’t like the look of a chin strap, I’m glad the Moab Sun Hat has one so I can hang the hat around my neck if I want to or cinch the hat tighter when it’s windy at the lake. 

Details

I found a great fit in the size S/M hat. Snug but not tight around the headband. The cap also comes in a larger size, L/XL, and is available in three colors: Kalamata (Burgundy), Umber (orange), and Blue Spruce (green). (Read our other reviews of Outdoor Research gear.)

Bottom Line: The Moab Sun Hat isn’t very exciting—I wish I came in some fun prints and more color options—but it does the job well. It’s ideal for my afternoon outings, and it provides much better sun protection than my usual baseball cap.
