Nite Ize Radiant® 300 Rechargeable Headlamp

Nite Ize

Easy-to-use rechargeable headlamp.

Nite Ize’s Radiant® 300 Rechargeable Headlamp is a water-resistant, 90 degree adjustable 300 lumen light with four white light modes (high and low spot, high and low flood), one red light mode (flood). It has a sturdy housing that’s impact resistant (Nite Ize claim’s it is “drop proof to two meters…and I have dropped in many times with no impact on its functioning), and the wide headband is adjustable.

Simple & Solid

I love this headlamp. It’s rechargeable, which makes it easier to use than other headlamps I own that require AAA batteries. It’s also better for the planet to simply charge the lamp, which has a lithium ion battery. The headlamp charges in about two hours with an enclosed micro USB cable.

The Nite Ize’s Radiant® 300 Rechargeable Headlamp is simple to use. I’m not big on reading instructions. I like to grab and go, which I was able to do with this headlamp. Two large buttons on the top of the lamp control the four white light and one red light modes. I click once on either button for high beam and twice for low beam. For the red beam I hold the smaller flood button down for two seconds. (I admit I did need to consult the instructions for the red beam.) I appreciate that I was able to use the headlamp right out of the box.

Versatile Night Light

I’ve used the headlamp on many evening walks when I need a long beam to illuminate by way on dark streets. I took it with me to California; it was quite handy in my little sleeping room on the train, allowing me to control how much and what type of light I wanted to have during the very long trip. My friend used it for hands-free lighting while fixing my toilet and tub drain. It has also come in handy for accessing and sorting the fishing gear in my trunk at night. I’m always surprised by how bright the light is and how far the beam throws (73M) when I’m out at night.

Nite Ize claims the Radiant® 300 Rechargeable Headlamp runs for 36 hours on one charge, depending on which mode is used. I would agree with that. I tend to use it, then toss it in my “stuff” drawer, then grab it again a few days later. I’m not very good about paying attention to how long I use the headlamp, so it’s handy that there is a warning lights that lets me know when I need to charge. I also appreciate the lockout option. I can lock the headlamp in “off” by holding down the main lamp light for five seconds. This has saved me from accidentally burning through the battery when the headlamp is bouncing around in my day pack.

The wide-ish (1”) headband is adjustable and comfortable, and it’s easy to gently move the lamp within a 90 degree range of positions to direct the light where I want it. I prefer wearing the lamp over a baseball cap because the housing can be heavy and slip down.

Bottom Line

So handy. Easy to use with large target buttons, and I love that I don’t need to buy or pack batteries. I can also charge the headlamp in my car with the micro USB cord. Sweet.
