Kari Traa Svala Pant

I live in a temperate climate, so it rarely gets below freezing, but on wet windy days, 40 degrees F can seem much colder. For shoulder seasons, and as a winter base layer, I need a workout pant that breathes well. Kari Traa’s Svala Pant is just the ticket.

Made out of fine merino wool and Dri-Release Polyester blend, the Svala Pant is ultra-thin, highly breathable, and long on performance. I wear the pant in temperatures as warm as 55 degrees F to just around 30 degrees F, and in all cases have found the comfort I need.

I tend to heat up very quickly, even if I’m just power-walking (“just” is an understatement; I really move fast). The Svala Pant keeps me comfortable for miles because the fabric keeps my skin warm while releasing my sweat. Even when I wear the pant on a day when I could have worn long shorts, I don’t overheat.

Because the Svala Pant is snug and thin, it’s also ideal under rain pants or soft shell pants for outings where I’m not as active (while watching my friend’s kids play soccer) or the temperatures are close to freezing (when I get out of town and into the mountains). See review of Kari Traa top.

The Svala Pant is available in several bright colors, in addition to the black style I tested, in sizes XS-XL.
