Ibex Izzy Tack Pant

I’ve been waiting for Ibex’s Izzi Tack Pant for a long time. I wanted a pant that was body-hugging like my old Sporthill running pants but not tight like a pair of running tights. And, of course, made out of merino wool.

Ibex’s Izzi Tack Pant makes the cut. Designed like an equestrian pant, the two-toned Izzi Tack Pant has plenty of style on the trail and around town. Made out of 88% merino wool blend with some serious Lycra in the mix for stretch (88.7% NZ Merino, 7% Nylon, 4.3% Lycra), there’s nothing I can’t do in the Ibex Izzi Tack Pant. The 21-micron fabric feels gloriously nubby on the outside and soft and smooth on the inside. I wear them for my daily power walks, hiking, and as an alternative to sweats when I want to run around town to do errands or meet up with friends.

Since it rarely gets below 40 degrees F where I live, the Ibex Izzi Tack Pant feels more like a heavy weight pant than a mid-weight pant. Thankfully, it breathes and wicks well, so I don’t overheat when I’m out and starting to push the pace a bit. I’m embarrassed to say that I most often wear the pant instead of jeans. It’s comfortable, and because it’s so stretchy, I almost don’t notice I’m 30 pounds over my usual weight. I love the wide waistband (1.75″); the pant stays in place! No slipping, no binding. The waistband elastic is very substantial, so it won’t wither away in a year. I’ll be wearing this pant for years.

I’m very tall, with long legs, and I appreciate that the amount of lycra in the Izzy Tack Pant makes it much longer than the 30″ claimed on the Ibex website. I wear the pant with my cool black and red boots, and can pull the pant leg down very far.

Available in black/grey and brown/red in women’s sizes XS-XL.

Bottom Line: Comfy casual pant that’s also ideal for cold-weather activities and exercise, as well as for travel.
