I have hard-to-fit feet and lots of injuries, so finding fashionable, functional footwear is pretty frustrating! At least it was until I discovered Deckers X Lab’s latest: the KO-Z Ventura Sandal.
Like the KO-Z Slide slippers I reviewed back in February, the KO-Z Ventura Sandals have a unique profile that’s also quite familiar. That’s because the Deckers Lab products are designed by people who have worked with several shoe brands, including Uggs and Teva.
A Sandal With Sole
I’ll start with the sole. The KO-Z Ventura Sandals have a rocker sole; its designed to smoothly roll from heel to toe. That means there isn’t a lot of flexing through the forefoot (where I have an old injury). The sole is nice and thick, providing both dense support and a bit of cushion. More like a springy feel with each step.
The inside of the sandal is slightly contoured, and therefore, more supportive than the average sandal. The arch is covered with wool for moisture management. With all my other shoes I wear a significant full-length cork and leather insole, as well as an AFO brace, which pretty much rules out sandals for me. However, the KO-Z Ventura Sandals provide enough support and stability that I can wear them on their own and use a cane instead of my brace. The nubuck upper covers the top of my foot, and it’s adjustable with a small side strap. The back strap of the sandal is also adjustable. With all these design features working together, I can get the fit, function, and stability I need to safely walk without all my usual devices.
Since my KO-Z Slide slippers are still springy and stable after daily wear for the past five months, I expect the same long-lasting comfort and support from the KO-Z Ventura Sandals.
The hexagon patterned sole has held up well over repeated outings and has provided decent traction on pavement and grass. However, the hexagon indentations collect dirt, so I need to clean my sandals or remove them before entering my house.
Step Out in Style
Heck yea, the KO-Z Ventura Sandals are fashionable! The fanned sole in the back and the textured nubuck patches on the upper mark this sandal as fancy futuristic footwear, while the dark grey and black Teva-like straps lend a sporty energy. I wear the sandals with pants and shorts, as slippers, on road trips, to Zoom dance parties… I almost always get at least one compliment each outing. I’m not above loving that.
Also important. I need to be able to run for my life no matter what shoes or sandals I’m wearing. The KO-Z Ventura Sandals totally keep my feet in place, so if trouble comes, I can hobble away as fast as I can (and when my leg finally heals, I will RUN).
I have a fairly wide foot (D or EE), so I tested the men’s KO-Z sandal. Perfect fit in width, length, and volume. It is available in men’s (8-12) in four colors: black, light grey, brown, blue/red. Bottom Line
Comfy, chunky (but not clunky) substantial sandals that offer refreshing style and stability. I wear them everywhere, with everything. Versatile and ideal for travel when you need to limit the number of shoes/sandals you pack.
