Cotopaxi Capa Insulated Hooded Jacket

Lightweight, packable four-season jacket.

Compact Coziness

I’ve been wearing Cotopaxi’s lightweight Capa Insulated Jacket for a few months, and it’s one of my most versatile jackets. I live in a temperate climate, so this thin jacket is all I need for daily wear in typical winter temperatures hovering in the low 40’s F. I throw it on over short- and long-sleeved tops, and sometimes I add a sweatshirt or wool hoody as a middle layer. I’m always warm enough.

When temperatures drop into freezing range, I wear the Capa Insulatead Jacket underneath a waterproof shell for my favorite winter activity, fishing for squid at night. Between the water temperature and the breeze off the sea, it can get really cold standing in one place, but I always stay toasty warm. Because the jacket provides excellent insulation without adding bulk, I also stay nimble.

Sustainable, Functional

The Capa Insulated Jacket is made out Bluesign approved fabric and insulated with Primaloft Gold P.U.R.E. (Produced Using Reduced Emissions), which is 100% recycled. I appreciate Cotopaxi’s sustainability efforts, and I’m a huge Primaloft fan because I love that such a thin layer can be so effective at keeping me warm. Also, I’m allergic to down, so I am happy that there’s a cold-weather option for me.

I love the hood on this jacket (it’s also avialable without a hood). It’s a drawstring- and toggle-free style, which makes it simple to put on and remove even when I’m wearing gloves. The hood and both sleeve ends are hemmed in a stretchy material. The main zipper is chunky and durable, with thin nylon cords forming a zipper pull on the end. The zippered side pockets have enough space to hold my essentials: phone, wallet, inhaler. They also have cord zipper pulls.

The Capa Insulated Jacket is fairly breathable, but when I am moderately active I usually end up removing it and tying it around my waist. For me, this jacket really shines as my every day fall-winter-spring jacket, and I know I’ll toss it in my pack for evening outings near the water this summer.

Stylish and Durable

I love Cotopaxi’s designs. The jackets are retro-inspired, and the bags are colorful and fun. The Capa Instulated Jacket comes in a varriety of color combinations, and it also comes in solid black. There’s also a non-hooded version of the jacket, as well as a Capa vest. All of these items are avialable in men’s and women’s sizes.

It’s worth noting that the women’s Capa insulated Jacket is a bit short through the torso. This is likely not an issue for most women, but I’m almost 6’, and I ended up testing a men’s size L to get more length in the torso and arms.

Bottom Line

This well-made insulation jacket is warm, water-resistant, attractive, and has some nice eco creds. I love it for outdoors activities and travel, where I sometimes end up stuffing it into my day pack. It has held up to my abuse very well.

Available in color combos Woods/Greenery, Fatigue/Black, Abyss/Oatmeal, and Wine/Blue Violet, as well as in solid colors Cotopaxi Black and Cotopaxi Iron. Men’s sizes XS-XXXL. For women, the jacket comes in Raspberry/Canyon, Green Tea/Faded Brick, Drizzle/Aspen, and solid colors Cotopaxi Wine and Cotopaxi Black. Sizes: XS-XL.
