Big Agnes Yarmony Hooded Jacket

The first thing I noticed about the Big Agnes Yarmony Hooded Jacket was its contoured fit. Next, its light weight.

Made out of a water-resistant, windproof fabric with 60g Pinnacle Core insulation, the Harmony Hooded Jacket has done a great job of keeping me warm and dry the past month. I really appreciate the longer cut in the back; I’m 6′ tall, so I’m always happy when I can find some extra length. I also love the thumb loops that keep my hands and wrists warm. I rarely gets down to freezing temperatures where I live, so I aways either forget my gloves or grab gloves that aren’t warm enough when I head outdoors. Thumb loops are a great backup when the temperatures drop and I’m stuck with thin liner gloves.

Big Agnes has thought of lots of nice little details that provide comfort and ease, including the under-zipper flap that keeps out cold, a secret internal zippered pocket, a quick-pull cinches in the jacket’s hem to keep the bottom of the jacket snug around my body, and the ultra-light inner mesh pockets, which are idea for small, flat items.

The Yarmony Hooded Jacket’s raglan-style sleeves allow complete freedom of movement and plenty of space for layering. Having said that, the roomy shoulder space was a bit too roomy for my shoulders. Since I’m a bit top-heavy, the jacket was almost tight around my chest. The combination of a snug chest fit with some extra fabric in front of my shoulders isn’t so flattering. Perhaps if I’d gone up a size, a larger jacket with more room across the chest would hang better from my shoulders. Still, I’ve been wearing the jacket as my everyday jacket for more than a month, and I’ve been very happy with its weather protection and warmth.

In fact, it’s been a bit too warm for the Yarmony Hooded Jacket. It rarely gets below 40 degrees F where I live, so I had to stay up late a few night to be able to walk around in mid-30 degree F temps. I’ve never been cold in this jacket, and would wear it with a mid-weight merino layer in temps down to 20 degrees F.  Since it rains all winter where I live, I have had a chance to admire the Yarmony Hooded Jacket’s water-resistance in action. Rain beads and rolls. As it should.

Available in women’s sizes XS-XL, the Yarmony Hooded Jacket comes in two colors: green and purple.

Bottom Line: A comfortable, lightweight, warm jacket that provides protection from wind and rain.
