Unbound Merino Muscle Tank

A lightweight tank for travel and more.

I still have a lot to learn about packing smarter when traveling, but I do have one area of my apparel dialed in: merino wool tops. Preferably, black.

I’m on week two of a months-long stay in Sweden, and I’m quite happy that I packed my Unbound Merino Muscle Tank. I assumed that I would wear it under my long-sleeved travel blouse when temperatures drop in September, but it’s been quite hot and humid here, so it’s been my “go to” top, day and night.

First I wore it with long shorts when visiting family. The black tank looked stylish with my dark green shorts, and it felt comfortable as I attended a photographic exhibit at a local museum. I cleaned up when I got home, and left the top over a chair while I decided what to wear out that night. I ended up swapping my shorts for a blue skirt and putting the tank back on for dinner and live music. I couldn’t believe that my Unbound Merino Muscle Tank was dry and didn’t smell for my dinner outing.

I wore the tank again the next day with gym shorts while exploring some ancient stone formations. Sweat was pouring off my body all day long. The humidity was ridiculous. Even at night, as the sun went down, I felt too warm. Again, the top didn’t smell at the end of the day. I tossed it into my dirty clothes bag anyway, thinking it probably needed a good wash.

Always Versatile

A few days later I arrived at my long-stay designation. It was late at night, and I was happy to be feeling a bit cooler. By the time I went to bed I actually felt a tiny bit chilly, but I couldn’t find the sleeping t-shirt I thought I’d packed. So, I pulled the Unbound Merino Muscle Tank out of my dirty clothes bag, gave it a big whiff, and decided to sleep in it since it didn’t smell.

The next morning, it still didn’t smell. So I’ve slept in it for three nights now. It still doesn’t smell, which seems miraculous to me. I just hand-washed it in the sink, anyway, because I was washing some other items, and now it’s on the line outside, drying in the early evening air.

Ultra Soft Fibers

The Unbound Merino Tank is made out of 100% merino wool. I love the soft, stretchy fabric. It’s nice and thin, and does a great job of breathing and wicking, helping with thermoregulation. It’s been unbearably hot for me this trip, and I wouldn’t have made it through the past week if I’d only packed cotton tops.

I found the Unbound Merino Muscle Tank to run true to my regular size, XL. I was sure it would be too short for me because I’m 6’ tall and have an extra long torso, but it fits fine and the hem covers the waistbands of my shorts and skirts. I’d still love it if the tank was cut an inch or two longer.

Bottom Line

Soft, comfortable, put-it-on-and-forget-it top that’s fashionable and perfect for exercising and hiking. Hands-down one of my favorite travel tops.

Available in black, navy, heather grey in women’s sizes XS-XL.
