Solo NY RE:MOVE DUFFEL

Stylish and Practical

Solo NY’s RE:MOVE DUFFEL has everything I want in a multi-use bag: plenty of compartments, pouches, and sleeves to hold my work gear, toiletries, and a change of clothes. It’s ideal as an overnight, weekend, and gym bag.

The RE:MOVE DUFFEL, part of Solo NY’s RE:cyled Collection, is made out of a heathered light grey material with dark grey contrasting zippers and handles.

Eco Creds

The finely-woven material is made out of plastic bottles that are cut into small pieces, melted, and transformed into a fiber, then spun into a yarn. Soly NY’s RE:cyled Collection includes includes a backpack, a computer sleeve, a briefcase, a tote, and a mini-backpack.

Padded, Organized

I’m a terrible packer, so I appreciate that the RE:MOVE DUFFEL is organized into a large main compartment that is about five-and-a-half inches wide and a large zipped pocket on the outside of the bag. The bag is lightly padded on all sides and on the bottom of the duffel.

The inner side of the compartment has two deep sleeves, where I stash my iPad mini and a notebook, and the outer side has a mesh pouch sleeve that runs the length of the bag. That’s where I store my laptop.

I use the main compartment for a packing cube containing a change of clothes,  a shirt-jacket, and my recycled cashmere pirate hat. There’s still room in the compartment for my toiletries bag and my good luck charm, a small stuffed bunny named Bun E. Carlos. He travel everywhere with me!

Room for all Devices

The zippered side pocket is spacious and wide enough for for all those items I need to access en route: a water bottle, my iPod (yes, I still use my iPod!!), my pen pouch, and a backup hard drive. One side of the pocket has flat sleeves, and the other side has sleeves for credit cards and two pens. They are not that deep enough for what I want to use them for, so I usually just put my phone or iPod in one of the sleeves. The pen holders are useful and save me from scrambling through my bag when I need to write something down. There’s also a key lanyard, which I have figured out how to use yet since I prefer to keep my keys in my pocket or on a lanyard around my neck.

There is another slim zippered pocket on the outside of the second compartment, which I use for items I need to access quickly: my travel documents, my wallet, and my inhaler. I like how the zipper is hidden under a flap of material; it would be great if there was a garage under the flap for the zipper pull.

Bottom Line

Overall, I like this bag because it has enough room for all my devices and some clothes. I like the minimal design and the fine-weave material; they give the bag a clean, urban look that means I can carry it to meetings looking stylish. I also appreciate the RE:MOVE DUFFEL’s eco creds. In addition to using recycled material, Solo NY is working with the National Forest Foundation to plant a tree for every bag sold. They also offer a five-year limited warranty on their bags.

The only thing about the bag I was less satisfied with is the black camo print lining. I’m not sure how to describe it, but the lining has a crinkly feeling to it that makes it seem like it’s not the same quality as the sturdy outer material. Maybe it will soften with use.

Still, I appreciate the padded, adjustable (and removable) shoulder strap and the open sleeve that allows me to slide the duffel onto the handle of a wheeled case. It’s an attractive and easy-to-use bag.
