I originally expected to text Helly Hansen’s super lightweight Lifa Active Light SS Shirt for gym workouts and power walks. Then I fell and broke my leg into pieces.
Not to worry, I burned a lot of calories traversing the care center in my manual wheelchair and during my physical therapy sessions. After an accident and a surgery, my body had to work so much harder just to do basic things. Wheeling myself down to dinner took the place of my power walks and Thera-band exercises and trying to bathe myself became my strength and functional fitness routines.
Cool and Light
I always felt too hot, too tired, and sick of the baggy lounge t-shirts I wore every day. Slipping into the Helly Hansen LIFA ACTIVE LIGHT SS Shirt was a treat. It was so lightweight that I almost didn’t feel it against my skin. At least I didn’t think about it at all. I’m someone who sweats the minute I starting moving, so I was very pleased that the shirt was efficient at wicking away moisture and breathed well.
The Helly Hansen LIFA ACTIVE LIGHT SS Shirt (the men’s version of this shirt is called the “HH LIFA TSHIRT”) has a fairly busy seam pattern; stitches are visible on the shoulder, around the shoulder, across and up the front of the shirt, and along the sides. I liked this design and was happy to find that all the seams were flat. I didn’t experience even one second of chafing. I didn’t even feel the seams.
Fits Just Right
I liked the fit of this top, which isn’t body-hugging or loose. I have a large chest; women with less up front might find a looser fit. I did go up a size, and was glad I did. I like the fit and length of the size XL. (The HH site uses “Fit Finder,” a short questionnaire that help determine the best size for you based on your height, weight, and age. I found it worked perfectly for me. Going up a size was the right choice.)
There are many fabrics available now that combat odor, the Helly Hansen LIFA ACTIVE LIGHT SS Shirt is not made out of such a fabric. My shirt got pretty stinky, so I rarely wore it two days in a row. But I would wash it less often if I just wore it for an hour to exercise in and changed into other clothes. I never do that when I wear the Helly Hansen LIFA ACTIVE LIGHT SS Shirt because it’s so light and airy that I never want to take it off.
