Therm-a-Rest Stuff Sack Pillow

Simple travel tool for comfort.

Sleepy Head

You know how they talk about someone being an “ugly crier,” well, I’m an ugly packer. I also like my comfort, so I try to use my flaws to my advantage. For example, my sloppy style works really well with the lightweight Therm-a-Rest Stuff Sack Pillow, allowing me to make my own pillow wherever I go.

At 43 cm (17 inches) long, the Stuff Sack Pillow is large enough to hold a few towels and my puffy jacket or a full-size blanket; all I have to do is stuff the item(s) into the sack. No folding or organizing. A fleece blanket fits well, with a bit of room left. I’m not above shoving clothes in there—a hoody and lots of socks—if it means I can create a comfy neck rest or extra pillow.

The Therm-a-Rest Stuff Sack Pillow is made out of lightweight ripstop nylon with a brushed polyester lining that packs down into a super thin, flat layer when not in use. I used the Sack twice before realizing that I was putting my face on the outside of the sack, which had been attached to the outside of my pack. Not so clean. When I looked up the Sack on the Therm-a-Rest website and saw the photos, I realized I needed to turn the Sack inside out to reveal the softer inside of the bag, which also has a crisp striped pattern on it.

I really like the Therm-a-Rest Stuff Sack’s ease-of-use and versatility. I try to back light on trips, so sometimes the Sack doubles as my swim bag when I’m on the road. It’s easy to toss my suit, goggles and a few toiletries when I want to find the nearest Y and get in a workout.

A nice gift item for a traveler or camper.
