Tea is not a beverage to be rushed. But sometimes I have to choose between skipping my morning tea or taking it with me for later. In those cases, Cotopaxi’s Capa Vacuum Bottle is just what I need.
Packable
The slim-profile double-walled, vacuum-insulated bottle holds 500 ml of liquid and fits easily into the side pockets of my daypack. On its first outing, I went to visit a friend, thinking the one-and-a-half hour ride would go by quickly since I was riding with two friends. Sadly, I didn’t count on the rain or rush hour traffic. By the time we arrived four-and-a-half hours later I’d forgotten all about my tea. So it was a nice surprise to unpack my bag and find my Cotopaxi Capa Vacuum Bottle!
Hot and Cold
And the tea was still warm. Lifesaver! I even had enough to share with my friends. The half-liter size and slim profile work so well for me. When I need to stay hydrated, the Cotopaxi Capa Vacuum Bottle keeps my water cool for hours. When I need to savor hot chai while working, I can make it half a day and my tea stays warm. While I didn’t find that the bottle kept beverages hot for 12 hours or cold for 24 as Cotopaxi claims, I was happy with the four or five hours it kept my tea warm. Much longer after that, and the tea was lukewarm and not pleasant to drink.
Sip Gasket
The Capa Vacuum Bottle comes with a removable “sip gasket,” which I could happily do without since I like to drink my tea in a glass and when it’s piping hot and since it’s not possible to drinking hot tea out of a sip gasket without burning my mouth. Also, I prefer to gulp cold water out of the bottle; a sipping gasket prevents that. The other problem I have with the gasket: it has to be in the bottle to give the lid a tight fit. True, the fit is tight, and I haven’t had any leaks. That’s a bonus. But having to keep track of the gasket makes this sleek, stylish a bit more “high maintenance” than other bottles. Still, I love the Capa Vacuum Bottle and use it several times a week, but I’m not sure it will stay in the line up if the gasket goes missing.
