Field Testing

Scenario 1

Skiing | Mid-30s°F | Snoqualmie Pass, WA

I don’t like to carry a lot of things in my ski jacket pockets when I’m skiing, but I also don’t want to wear a day pack. Peak Design’s Tech Pouch turned out to be the ideal bag for a day-long ski outing. It easily held my phone, charger, a packet of tissues, my wallet, and my keys. I attached an adjustable strap to the pouch that allowed me to wear it around my waist or as a cross-body bag.

As I packed the Tech Pouch I noticed immediately how well the internal dividers provided space and organization for several items. Peak Design uses “origami-style” dividers that open up to reveal storage areas when I open the bag. I was surprised by how much I was able to fit in the back, and it was very easy to find items when I needed them.

I was also impressed with the weatherproof shell and coated zippers: everything inside the pouch stayed dry all day, even when the pouch was surrounded by wet gear (I have a bad habit of throwing everything in the trunk after I ski, only to find later that my wet gear has soaked through my pack or purse on the drive home). Not this time.

At the end of the day the pouch had a few wet snow spots on it, but the exterior wiped clean with a damp cloth and looked just like new.

Scenario 2

Weekend Trip | Chelan, WA

The Peak Design Tech Pouch is compact enough to fit easily into a backpack, tote, or small suitcase, but thanks to its expanding internal pockets it held far more than I might have expected from its size.

On a recent weekend trip to visit a friend I challenged myself to pack as lightly as possible. I brought just a backpack and my Peak Design Tech Pouch.

The pouch ended up functioning perfectly as a compact toiletry organizer. The stretchy interior pockets and accordion-style dividers kept everything upright and separated so bottles didn’t tip over or leak. The interior zippered pocket with small elastic compartments turned out to be especially useful for tiny items that normally get lost in a toiletry bag. I used those compartments for fingernail clippers, hair ties, and other small items that I wanted to find quickly. Even after packing everything I needed for the weekend, I still had room left over in several pockets.

I appreciated the Tech Pouch’s flat-bottom structure that helps the bag stand upright, making it easier to see and access items inside. The zipper pulls makes access quick and easy.

Scenario 3

Boating | Seattle, WA

Saltwater and traditional leather bags don’t mix well. So whenever I take out my boat, I worry about salt spray soaking my purse and damaging it. With the Peak Design Tech Pouch, I don’t have to worry about that at all. The weatherproof exterior fabric and coated zippers stand up well to the spray, and I can wipe the bag off if it gets dirty.

Even more important, the inside of the Tech Pouch stays dry. It’s a relief to know that my phone, charging cables, and reading glasses are protected from the elements. The Tech Pouch has several cord loops and grab handles, making it easy for me to lash it to a railing so it’s secure when the boat is moving.

After repeated use around water, snow, and travel gear, the fabric still looks new and the zippers continue to operate smoothly. Based on the construction and materials, I expect this pouch to last for years of regular use. Cleaning is simple: just wiping the exterior with a damp cloth was all that was needed.
