Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves

Featherweight protective gloves for crummy weather.

Perfect Fit

Cold, windy, drizzly weather is the most intimidating type of weather when I need to exercise or when I’m commuting via bike, but with the right gear, it’s so much easier to get myself out the door.

Hestra’s Runners All Weather Gloves seem to be designed to match my hands’ shapes and their needs. First, they fit great. I used the measuring guidelines on the Hestra site, and was quickly able to determine the size I needed. The fingers are long enough for my long fingers, and even more important, the wide cuff on the underside of the glove sits exactly in a comfortable place below the palm of my hand. Sometimes with gloves the various fit points don’t all line up even if the gloves fit, but I was very impressed with how well my Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves fit. Plus, I have a tiny smidge of room at the ends of my fingers, which is how I like my gloves to fit. Just a few hairs shy of hitting the fabric with the tips of my fingers.

The Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves feel like elegant examples of Swedish design: minimal, durable, functional. They’re beautiful, with no extra fabric or ornamentation. I love that.

Weather Protection

The Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves are made out of a windproof and water-repellent fabric that has enough stretch to both allow me to easily put on the gloves and to allow lots of flexibility and freedom of movement once they’re on. The tops of the gloves are made out of a hi-vis yellow fabric with the word “Hestra,” and with the Hestra logo, printed on top in reflective silver material. I most often wear these gloves at night for power walking or biking commuting when I need all the visibility I can get. My walking buddy says she can see me coming from more than a block away!

Hestra has thoughtfully added a fuzzy, soft panel along the inner sides of the gloves that extends over the tops of the thumbs. Cold weather makes my nose run, so I love this panel for wiping my nose. Gross, but essential.

Phone-Friendly

Another essential feature I appreciate about the Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves: I can interact with my iPhone screen with gloves on! The forefingers and thumbs are covered with small panels of fabric designed to facilitate tapping, swiping, and other touches.

The Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves have grippy dots on the palms to help me get some purchase on things like doorknobs, handlebars, and trekking poles. There is a wide, strong nylon flap on the inside of the wristband that is helpful when putting on the gloves. It allows me to clip the gloves together with a small carabiner when not in use.

Bottom Line

I’m very happy with the Hestra Runners All Weather Gloves. They are durable and well-made. Along with a thin merino beanie that kept my head warm under my helmet, these gloves were lifesavers during my long, cold, late-night bike rides criss-crossing Stockholm for three weeks this fall.

They did an excellent job of keeping my hands warm and dry, with the added benefit of making me more visible on the road. Currently, I wear them several times a week for hour-long power walks in dark and often rainy weather, and am grateful for their breathability since I tend to get very warm as soon as I exercise at even a slow pace. These versatile gloves are ideal for chilly and cold fall outings, and since I live in a temperate climate I can wear them through winter and into spring.
