Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer

Simple balm for dry skin and lips.

Compact Comfort

On a recent months-long trip to Europe I had so much gear to haul around that I needed simple solutions for my skin care because I didn’t have room left for lots of body products. Bag Balm’s original Skin Moisturizer worked double duty to keep my  skin and lips soft.

The compact, TSA-friendly .33-ounce tube was easy to stash in my track pants pocket for the flight and in my hip pack throughout the length of my trip. Long flights are awful for my lips; they seem to get dry and on their way to chapped after just a couple of hours in the air. I prevented any issues by hydrating whenever the flight attendants offered water and by using my Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer every hour.

The moisturizer is simple to apply. I squeeze a little bit out of the tube, then use the tube’s built-in angled tip applicator to spread it over my lips. I like how the moisturizer has a creamy consistency but glides on very smooth and silky. Because I’m a germaphobe, I also appreciate that I can apply the moisturizer without putting my dirty fingers on the applicator or on my mouth. It’s a small thing to apply some glossy lip protection every hour. Still, it was nice to have a small way to comfort myself. The formula helps my skin and lips retain moisture.

During my trip I used the Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer every day before I left the house and every afternoon after swimming in the sea. At night before I went to bed I used the tip of an ear bud to apply a small amount of the moisturizer to my cuticles. My hands and nails seem to take a lot of abuse during my outdoor adventures, and the moisturizer feels soothing on all the little cuts and bruises, while also helping soften my cuticles.

I’m not much into grooming beyond showering and brushing my teeth, so having a tiny tube of moisturizer was an easy way to prevent my lips and skin from cracking and chapping.

Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer is made in Vermont from just a handful of ingredients, including: petrolatum (aka petroleum jelly), lanolin, paraffin, water, and 8-hydroxy-quinoline sulfate 0.3% (a preservative that has antiseptic properties).

I’m allergic to chemical fragrances, so I was happy that I could not discern any fragrance from the  Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer. My skin tolerated it well, too. I usually use all-natural body products, but I like the Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer for its simplicity and effectiveness. It’s a nice gift item, too. We will be reviewing more Bag Balm products in the coming weeks, so please check back often.
