Chums Downstream 4L Bag

Chums.com

Watertight waist pack for rainy and wet outings.

Simple, Handy

I realized a couple of months ago that I didn’t need the tackle box I was lugging to the pier when I went squid fishing at night. All I needed to bring was two extra jigs (in a plastic box), a knife, my UV flashlight, and a small repurposed mints tin containing my extra lines and fasteners. Those items fit easily into the Chums Downstream 4L Bag. There’s even a waterproof pocket on the front of the bag where I stash my receipt for my fishing license. (Yes, it’s good to have it with you. The game warden busted us last season at 9pm one night.)

The top of the Chums Downstream 4L Bag is bordered with strong, inch-wide nylon straps that extend past the bag into plastic buckle ends. The bag stands on its own, making it easy and fast to toss items into it, roll down the top of the bag, and snap the buckle ends into the buckles on each side of the bag. When closed, the bag is water tight.

Because I have a bad habit of leaving things behind, I wear the Chums Downstream 4L Bag around my waist while I fish. It’s not heavy, and the bright orange waist band is about two inches wide, so it’s quite comfortable. The buckle closure is secure, and the belt is adjustable, which is convenient this time of year when I’m wearing lots of layers.

Bottom Line

I am very happy to wear this roomy yet compact bag on my fishing nights. I like having my gear very accessible. I’ve also worn this bag on rainy hikes, and it kept my snacks and phone dry during several hours of activity in crummy weather. I like wearing the bag around my waist, but the strap is long enough to use it like a shoulder bag, too.
