Wolverine Ascot Boot
I don't follow fashion trends, but I still like to look good. That's why I stick to brands like Wolverine that understand a thing or two about classic style. Their Ascot boots are both elegant and "every day" comfortable. Part of Wolverine's 1000 Mile collection, the Ascot boot is made out of a premium leather upper. The design is deceptively simple. They could be ordinary work boots from a bygone era, but the smooth matte leather, the fine top stitching, and the reinforced area at the base of the laces give them a sophisticated, urban feel. The Ascot has a sturdy leather sole and stacked heel, which adds to its refined look. The boots have classic welt construction and the forefoot and heel are covered in rubber to provide traction and protect the sole. It's so nice to find well-made shoes with a traditional sole; so many men's shoes today have soft soles. They're not as comfortable over time, and they just don't look very....manly. Some day, when I've trashed these boots, I'll be able to have them repaired or resoled. The boot provides great stability and support, and required very little break-in time. I wear them all day long, at work, and while running all over the city. They look great with jeans or dressier pants. Available in brown and in black, men's sizes 7-13 D (some Wolverine styles available in EEE width.) This boot runs a bit long. I wear a full-length orthotic and still had to go down 1/2 size. Wolverine also makes wome's boots. Bottom Line: A classic boot with its own unique charm. E.D. (March 2011) BUY ONLINE: $235 (on sale for $176). Manufacturer's Site: www.wolverine.com
