TRENDnet Wireless N Travel Router : Pocket-Sized Connectivity
I hate to admit it, but I can't stand not having internet access. When I'm traveling, whether I stay with friends or in a hotel, I have to have a wireless connection the minute I walk through the door. I'd heard great things about TRENDnet's tiny Wireless N Travel Router, but the true test for me had more to do with ease of use. I wanted the smallest router possible, and the TRENDnet is smaller than my iPod. Better still, it comes in its own zippered case that has a soft-lined fabric pouch for the router, an elastic band that holds cords in place, and even a secure mini holster for the power adapter. So, I loved the router the minute I saw it. Still, in the back of my mind I was wondering how much time I'd have to spend making it work. Thankfully, from the minute I took everything out of the box, it only took me five or ten minutes to get a full-strength wireless signal on my PowerBook. I almost don't even remember how I did it, and of course, I lost the instruction CD the minute I finished using it. Not only was it simple to hook up, all I had to do is follow the TRENDnet set-up wizard to name my home network and secure it with password protection. Of course, I can access any unprotected network within range, which is handy for travel. Now, I can move about the world freely, knowing that my email, Facebook, Twitter, and other essential web pages are only minutes away. Specs: Comes with an ethernet cable, USB to power-pin cable, 300Mbps wireless N speed. Use as as a router, access point, or ap-client. WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption. Work with Windows, Linux, MAC OS. Bottom Line: I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have a computer gadget that is simple to use and so completely portable.--E.D.
