Prana Axiom Jean : Action Pants for Climbing and Casual Wear
I knew I'd found the right pair of pants when I looked at one of the hang tags on Prana's Axiom Jean and read: "Climbing denim at its best." Yes! Prana's known for its stylish street wear and well-cut climbing clothes, and the Axiom Jean is another great success. I just got home from a week-long road trip, and my Axiom jeans saw plenty of action. I climbed feisty sport routes in Central Colorado, and I cruised a few bars in them in Vail. A nice looking pair of jeans is one thing, but a stretchy pair I can wear on Stemmoroids is another. Stemmoroids, for those who don't know, is an infamous climb that requires doing the splits over and over again. Wearing jeans on it would normally be considered a ridiculous idea, but the Axiom pants aren't normal jeans; the fabric has a little bit of Spandex woven in, so it stretches. Add to that the gusseted inseam, and the Axiom jeans suddenly become a classic cragging pant. I love having technical climbing clothing disguised as street wear. But wait! There's more! A few days later, I was at my best friend's wedding weekend. They blended in perfectly at a Southwest style barbeque in the New Mexican desert: flippy floppies on my feet, with a beer in one hand and a horseshoe in the other. I felt supremely cool in them, with their contrast stitching, retro rear pockets, and wash-faded colors. My date thought I looked pretty cool, too. Available in various lengths and in three washes. Bottom Line: Take a fancy denim jean, mix with a technical climbing pant, add a dash of salt, and enjoy it on the rocks. (NW, Dec '09) BUY ONLINE: $75,
