Keen Springwater Cycling Shoe: A Nice Ride
Ever since I bought a pair of Keen Targhee II Mid hiking boots, I've been a fan of the brand. Keen's shoes are durable and, even more important, comfortable. So with that in mind, I had high hopes for Keen's new cycling shoe, the Springwater. Keen's closed-toe cycling shoe has great padding in all the right places, especially at the balls of my feet where I hit the pedals. With three strong Velcro straps, the shoe stays on tight and only allows minimal heel movement. I took these guys for a 15-mile ride on a paved trail near my home in Colorado on a beautiful spring day. I pedaled almost effortlessly because the Keens have a good clip connection to the pedal (the shoes have an SPD cleat drill hole pattern). They breathed well on that hot day and kept my feet dry thanks to a wicking lining. Overall, I was impressed at the efficiency of the shoes. I also got the easy fit and comfort I look for in Keen footwear. A couple warnings: At just shy of 20 ounces per shoe, they are a little on the heavy side. Also, as Keen warns--they run about a half-size small. Available in men's and women's sizes. Bottom LIne: If you're looking for a shoe that's easy on the feet and effective in helping you pedal, The Springwater is a good fit. -- C.H.
