Granite Gear Pack Pocket : Get Organized
I'm not a backpacker, but that doesn't mean I can't love Granite Gear's ingenious backpack accessory, the Pack Pocket. This rectangular zippered black pouch is made out of lightweight, durable nylon and has waterproof zippers. The Pack Pocket is simple to use; all I had to do was thread the compression straps of my pack through the flat nylon straps on the back of the pocket to secure the pocket to my pack. The Pack Pocket has a nylon "handle" at the top, so it's easy to grab when I need it. Granite Gear's Pack Pocket is ideal for those extra items I want quick access to, such as my camera, snacks, a GPS unit, and even a pair of dry socks. I like that it has a padded back to provide some cushioning for my gadgets. I also like that once it's on my pack it stays put. I used a Pack Pockets on a recent camping trip in the Olympic National Park, and was really happy I had it. I have a variety of medications and other essentials that I need with me most of the time, so using the Pack Pockets helped me keep everything in one convenient place. To be honest, I'm a very inexperienced camper. It rained the entire time I was out in the woods, so I was pretty miserable during this trip. I used one pack for hiking and left another one packed with dry clothes in my car. At night I moved the dry pack, with Pack Pocket attached, into my tent. When I woke up in the middle of the night and needed my inhaler, it was dry and easy to find. (I should add here that I did not test this item in the rain. To protect items stored in pockets, I recommend a pack cover or placing items in waterproof pouch inside the pocket.) I've also used a smaller sized Pack Pocket for hikes in sunny weather and enjoyed having an extra space to stash things. The smaller pocket is also great for travel because it's long and not very thick, so I've used it to organize and pack small items in a carryon bag, computer bag, and suitcase. The Pack Pocket is available in three sizes, S, M, and L. Weight = around two ounces. Bottom Line: I love Granite Gear's Pack Pockets. They're simple to use and they help me keep my gear organized.--E.D. (Oct '10) BUY ONLINE: $15-22, click to shop Manufacturer's Site: www.granitegear.com
