Gaiam Wisdom Eco Yoga Mat
I exercise, I try to eat healthy foods, and I'd like my yoga practice to be toxin-free! Until recently I didn't know that many yoga mats contain PVC (i.e., "vinyl"), an environmental toxin. Not good. That's why I wanted to try Gaiam's Wisdom Eco Yoga Mat. Made out of natural rubber and decorated with contrast blue flower blossoms, the Wisdom Eco Yoga Mat looks and functions like all my other yoga mats. It's 3mm thick, which is a smidgen thinner than my icky PVC yoga mat but I don't notice the difference. I like the feel of the rubber under my feet. It feels denser and more solid than my old mat. I use the mat on a wood floor, and it provides plenty of stick against the floor and for my feet--without feeling sticky. It feels and smells like those old red rubber playground balls from my childhood. I like knowing that there are no toxins lurking in my mat. When I first received this mat, it had a strong off-gassing odor (which Gaiam warns customers about on their site) caused by the printed flower decals and probably from spending time rolled up and encased in its wrapper. The smell dissipated after awhile, and now it just has the natural rubber smell. I'm very sensitive to chemicals and chemical smells, and have been able to use this mat with no respiratory problems or headaches. Bottom Line: I'm happy to have found a yoga mat I like using that's also made from natural products.--E.D. (July '10) BUY ONLINE : $29.98, click to shop.
