Chaco Z/2 Sandal : The Every Day, Everywhere Sandal

We all know somebody who has a pair of Chacos, and everyone I know who has a pair swears by them.   I never gave it much thought one way or the other until I got my own pair of Chaco Z/2s (the style with a strap over the big toe and another strap behind the heel). It took maybe two minutes to get the wrap-around continuous strap adjusted for a perfect fit, and I've been wearing them nearly everyday since.

I need well-fitting no-nonsense footwear to keep up with my inquisitive three-year-old. I used to think running shoes were my only option before I got the Chacos. I've been wearing my Chacos to chase kids at the park, pull the wagon around the zoo, walk to the grocery store, and a variety of other on-the-go activities. They were excellent through all of it.

The real test was when I wore them on a hike.  I had my oversized 10-month-old in the kid-carrier backpack with snacks and water, and I intermittently had my three-year-old on my shoulders.   Not many sandals can provide the support and stability to carry a load like that (the weight is in excess of what I take on a week-long backpacking trip).    The Chacos provided all the foot bed support and traction that I get from my hiking shoes, with the added bonus of total ventilation.

I like the non-marking "Unaweep" sole; the "Z" sandals are also available with a more aggressive (but not non-marking) "Pro" sole option.

In addition to a variety of sandals and flip-flops, Chaco also offers some closed-toe type shoes in men's and women's styles.

Bottom Line :  I now understand why everyone loves their Chacos. --A.S. (May 09)
