These hearty multi-terrain shoes have an excellent tread with plenty of grip, a stability plate through the arch, plus Mephisto's patented "shock absorber" heel plug. Made out of natural rubber, these soles can handle a lot of abuse. They're also firm without being stiff. So with each step, my feet roll heel to toe without excessive flexing through the forefeet.

Whenever I go on vacation, I take these shoes because they're ideal for long walks along the Mississippi river, they look just fine with a pair of jeans for musuem outings, and if I feel like taking off for a long hike in the forest, they keep my feet happy no matter what type of terrain I encounter.
